The 2009 Santa Cruz County Fair will be showcasing the excellent work being done in the schools of our county. We are making some changes to our Education Department that will offer the opportunity to let the public see some of the outstanding work completed by your students.
One change will be that we are moving the Education Department to the Harvest Building and combining it with the Youth Department. This will offer the Fair a chance to show what our youth are accomplishing in many areas and will give us a true Youth/Education Department.
In the Harvest Building there will be a 12ft. x 12ft. stage that can be used by classes, choral groups, jazz bands, drama classes, or demonstrations. You just need to let us know when and for how long you would like to perform on the stage.
We want to encourage entries in the department that show outstanding work done by students. Some possible entries could be:
- Science Fair projects, other classroom science projects and experiments
- Social Studies projects such as Missions and Cultural Studies
- Creative writing project
- Video projects done by the class or individual
- Art projects
- Displays about your school garden, especially showing how the garden is used to teach science, math and other subjects in the classroom
- Industrial Arts projects such as woodworking, graphic drawing, architectural design
Schools will need to turn in an application to the Fair by June 15, 2009.
If you have any questions, please call the Education Committee at 1-888-565-8422.
Education Day Changes For 2009
- Education Days will be Wednesday and Thursday, September 16 and 17 from 9 AM to Noon.
- You must send in the attached application to get tickets
- Education Days are open to all THIRD THOUGH FIFTH GRADE students. Please limit children to these grades.
- One adult will be admitted free with every 4 students. Additional adults will be charged $5.00 admission fee.
- There is $5.00 parking fee per car.
SUGGESTIONS FOR ADULT CHAPERONES
- Bring water - there are only two drinking fountains on the Fairgrounds
- Put the cell phone number of someone from your group on the children’s name tag. Easy way to reunite lost children with an adult.
- Arrange for a “gathering” place for lunch and for the end of your visit. Lets you have a chance to exchange ideas and experiences.
- Bring hand sanitizer. There will be stations for hand washing around the Fairgrounds, but they are often very busy.
- Encourage students to use trashcans and recycling bins
- Some food vendors will be open; however, you may bring bag lunches for your convenience.
- Remind your students to “use their eyes not their hands” when they look at the exhibits.
