Watsonville, CA - The Santa Cruz County Fair will join fairs from across the country in celebrating the 200th anniversary of county fairs in America.  The first recorded modern county fair was held in Pittsfield, Massachusets in September, 1811.  “It was splendid, novel, and imposing, beyond anything of the kind, ever exhibited in America,” exclaimed gentleman farmer Elkanah Watson regarding the 1811 Fair.

Aptos, CA - Veronique* Mark’s first period photography class played host as Santa Cruz County Fair board president Rob Marani and Fair manager Michael Bethke awarded Aptos High School junior Ken Muramoto a crisp $100 dollar bill.  Ken, with his family and cheering classmates watching, was praised for his amazing talent “We looked at all the entries and there was no question which one we would choose” said Marani.

Watsonville, CA - Once again a group of talented students competed to have their artwork selected to represent the theme of the 2011 Santa Cruz County Fair.  Last year’s winner Ken Muramoto, now an Aptos High junior, was selected to have his artwork represent this year’s theme “Dancing with the Steers for 200 Years.”  Ken will be awarded a crisp $100 dollar bill during an upcoming classroom ceremony and he and his family will be guests of the Fair this fall.
